Birchington 1914

Before the First World War, and even during it, it was the custom of many wealthy families to take a house at the seaside for the summer. (With their servants of course!) Often several families would go together, and arrange lots of activities for each other. This is what my Grandmother did.

Here are some photos she took at Birchington in 1914 and 1915 - there is a strong Army presence in many of them.
